Dressing for London in Summer - by Lucy

Does it get much better than London in the summer? Well Christmas does come pretty close, but London in the summer is really something!

So much happens, outdoor concerts, festivals, lidos with friends, rounders in the park, (which to be honest with you, I’m not too bad at!)

The only downside to London in the summer is ‘what do I wear?! Being on a packed tube in the heat together with rush hour really isn’t the one.. and don’t get me started on makeup that literally just slides off your face as soon as you step outside your front door.

My key tips for dressing in London in the summer is ‘keep it simple, less is more’ a simple maxi dress with a classic  Birkenstock is my go too look, Uniqlo and Arket are my go to places for a classic simple maxi.

Hush in John Lewis always has a great selection of maxi dresses also. This one is perfect for those hot days, however could be elevated for a wedding or an evening event, just team it with a linen blazer and an oversized clutch and you'll be the perfectly dressed wedding guest.

I mentioned Birkenstocks and I can honestly say I live in mine during the summer months, I have them in black, white and khaki. They literally go with everything and really are a staple in my wardrobe during the summer months.

A simple oversized white cotton shirt gives the nod to the androgynous trend yet will also keep you cool, pair with an oversize trouser and wedge for a dressier vibe or keep it simple with a denim short. COS in my opinion do the best white shirt, they always come in a variety of different styles. Definitely go down one size though.

Beauty

As you will all know I am obsessed with beauty! obsessed and I always change my makeup collection for the warmer months, mainly because I don’t want to go for anything too heavy and secondly it needs to last all day due to the heat.

My go to items are:

Tan lux tanning drops. Many beauty brands have their version of these, Clarins come a close second but I always go back to the tan lux ones they come in two shades ‘light medium’ ‘medium dark’ I go for the medium dark ones. Mix with your moisturiser before bed and then ta da you wake up in the morning with a gorgeous golden glow with no need for a foundation!

If going foundation free freaks you out the best ones with staying power yet aren’t too heavy I would say is Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Foundation. I love this foundation for the summer months as It's definitely a natural coverage yet still buildable. It comes in 12 shades I mix between the shade 30 and 40. Don't be put off by the small bottle, it's still a 30ml foundation yet in a compact packaging! I apply mine with the Bobbi Brown foundation brush.

Another favourite of mine if you want something easy and light for the summer months is the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. I use their oil free version. This product has been a firm favourite of mine for many years, I often forget about it in the winter months but instantly fall back in love with it in the summer. I do have to be honest though, it doesn't offer much coverage so perfect if you already have a little tan or if you are not a foundation wearing girl!

I have never been  very good at the 'statement' lip. I am more of a lipgloss kind of girl. The launch of the lip oils from Clarins have already become a firm favourite of mine. So easy to apply and are so nourishing on the lip, They come in 8 different shades, I am currently using the shade Strawberry.
