How to create new looks this party season with what you already own

I've seen it and heard it - not just with friends but in the changing rooms, coffee shops and talks in the office - 'What are you wearing tonight?"

I have no 'party' plans for New Year Eve. Close friends over, food, wine and a last minute plan to set intentions and throw them into a fire pit ( that idea was mine after a margarita or two.) However, just because my plans over the years may have scaled down from the late night dance floors and the 2am taxi rides home doesn't mean that I don't dress up. Far from it darling!

However over the years I have changed my outlook on party wear. No longer do I want or need to spend hours scrolling the internet in search for the perfect 'party piece' or stand there feeling overwhelmed in a store, amongst the sale. Does this type of outlook come with age? Maybe. Or is it because what I have in my wardrobe IS good enough.

So how do we keep our party wear looking exciting time after time?

1.Start by thinking of the overall look first. By this I mean

  • Outerwear

  • Make up /

  • Accessories - jewellery, shoes

2. I say time and time again to my clients, coats can make a real statement to the overall look. What is your outerwear saying? Fur coats are beautiful to really elevate a simple, classic dress or two piece. Now the key to wearing fur ( faux) of course is to OWN it! Don't get shy about slipping those beautiful shoulders of yours through the sleeve. If you're wearing fur you have to do it ALL with confidence. I also love the idea of a structured coat ( think trench ( with a belt. Tie that up baby! Give yourself a sharp waist. The coat itself will become the star of the show and what an entrance she shall make.

3. Party season is the time to be experimental with makeup. Red lip oozes confidence and sex appeal. A winged eyeliner adds mystery. Playing around with coloured eyeshadows speaks to the free child within.

4. I'm amazed at how many women I speak to who say that they don't even think about their jewellery when getting ready. Not only does it add a focal point to an outfit but it can help draw the eye to a different part of the body. For example, if you're conscious of your middle we want the eye to be drawn either up or down the body. So let's frame that gorgeous face of yours with something shall we? ( Look at my video above for help on which jewellery to wear for what dress)

5. Shoes excite me because they can add excitement to any classic piece. A LBD ( little black dress) can look completely different with a statement heel. And no they don't have to be high but if you can make them a pointed toe. Remember pointed toes help elongate the legs making you look taller.

IF you are wanting a revamp when it comes to party wear and you do want to go shopping think you can do more with a piece that maybe hasn't got as much print / pattern on it. An understated dress doesn't mean boring. Oh no. Think statement necklines, sharp cuts - the right cut of a dress that helps draw the eye down the body is a total knock out. If a two piece is more your thing - remember......how are you wearing it at least three different ways in the future?

Happy dancing you mega babe X
