How to play with the cowboy trend without losing your style.

Beyonce Carter has a lot to answer for doesn't she? She drops a country album and next thing the whole country has gone wild for country.

From cowboy boots ( I must confess I've favourited a lush pair from Ganni on Vinted) to jewellery, here's my rundown on how to rock this years cowboy style without coming into contact with leather chaps.

When you're wanting to play around with a new trend my advice is start small. The same applies when comes to experimenting with color or print, the same principle holds true. If a client is looking to refresh their wardrobe but is unsure where to begin, I always recommend starting with accessories. I've encountered numerous women who admit to wearing the same earrings every day without a break. While that's perfectly fine if it suits you and you're content with it, if you're seeking a change, I advise my clients to consider the entire outfit - including accessories. If you feel like your outfit is lacking something, chances are it's the accessories that can elevate it.

Jewellery

I must admit jewellery is my thing! It instantly elevates my mood when I'm having a tired day or I'm wanting an instant lift to a classic, simple outfit. Free People create some beautiful pieces. Some of them are real statements, from stacked , layered necklaes to chunky cuff bracelets. So if you're looking for a statement - Free People is your go to place.

I also personally adore the necklaces that Free People showcase. Their unique and a real statement piece - the perfect piece to elevate any simple white tee and blazer look. ( I have on in transit as we speak!)

Tip: If you're conscious of a certain area of your body use jewellery to deflect the eye elsewhere. The collarbone is usually an area women feel confident showing - so navigate the eye there with a necklace.

Bags

During the lockdown, it seems that women are gradually reducing their use of bags. Many women

who primarily work from home mention that a bag is not essential to them anymore. The era of needing a bag that can carry everything, from laptops to makeup and travel essentials, seems to be fading. Nevertheless, a bag can still elevate a basic outfit, whether it's for work or leisure. If you're wanting a classic opt for a suede bag. Even adding a different texture to an outit can elevate a style.

I love adding a clutch if I'm heading to breakfast or brunch. If feels nicer and makes me feel I'm making more of an effort, even when I'm in my comfies or basics. Opt for a textured animal print clutch for elevation like this one from Hyde and Hare.

Jeans

Jeans are a clothing item that many women dislike. While practical, finding the perfect pair can be a challenge due to the variety of styles and shapes available, making the process overwhelming and confusing.

Choosing the right pair of jeans depends on your body shape. If you have a heavier bottom, these may not be suitable as we aim to find jeans that create a balanced look. However, if you have a larger bust, the Levis XL Chino Performance Cool Jeans could be a good option.

What makes these jeans appealing is their softness and ability to balance out a top-heavy figure. Pairing them with pointed or square-toe boots in Autumn/Winter can elongate the legs, creating a slimming silhouette. I would also recommend a denim brand such as Levis, Lee or Wrangler if you're wanting a perfect fitting jean with longevity.

TIP: Remember jeans turned inside out at 30 degree wash will help preserve the life of your denim.

Boots

Ok so I've seen a lot of cowboy boots done really badly. Now if you want a boot invest in quality because the cheap ones look cheap. In saying that the pointed toe of a cowboy boot I LOVE. I always think Mint Velvet do so well in the shoe department and their Autumn / Winter collections are always on point. I love these with the silver metallic trim around the edge of the boot. Work with a lighter wash denim or a black flared pair and you're good to go!

The layering piece

I was going to link a fringe jacket. I personally love them but they're not the easiest thing to wear. If you have boobs, are top heavy, conscious of your arms, it will just add bulk. I'm not saying you can't do one but again just be mindful about where the eye is drawn to. I love a classic suede long coat for Autumn / Winter. It's not too thick, you can layer up with knitwear and it's the perfect jacket for socialising / dinner / date night.
