Jeans. A stylists guide.

If we could have a pound for every client that tells us that they hate buying jeans we could holiday in the Maldives twice a year (ok, maybe not quite, but nearly!)

Once you find the right style of jean that works for your shape and style you'll never look back! There are so many different brands of jeans. They have come such a long way from the Levi adverts - skinny model in the bath with her jeans on so she could ensure the perfect fit.

We say to all our clients, like with buying the perfect white tee shirt, invest in a good pair of jeans and you wont look back. Many high-street brands have their own section of denim but as with skincare we urge our clients to use ‘Denim brands’ as opposed to a brand that have decided to create a denim line.

Below of a list of our favourite denim brands and where to purchase them.

Levi

Lucy:

I couldn't do a post on denim and not mention the iconic brand denim. Since writing this post I

have bought myself a pair! My first pair of Levi’s at the age of 36! I spoke to my Mum on the phone after I had bought them and she told me the story of when she bought her first pair of Levis from a friend back in the day!

The brand was launched in 1852 and its now a cult brand that has gone from strength to strength. Within the womenswear collection they have 7 different style of jeans (not including,

jackets, skirts etc) ranging from Super Skinny through to tapered and of course straight. Within the 7 different styles they then have different version! Take the Skinny for example - there is ‘High rise skinny’ ‘High rise super skinny and Mile high super skinny’. Levi is great because it's a denim brand that does different lengths! Ideal for the shorter ladies out there. Another great

point about Levi is that they offer a complimentary alteration service, so if like me you need the length shortening even more they can sort that for you free of charge, Just note though at the moment there is a massive back log due to Covid so it may take a little longer than usual. Being a brand that has such a huge collection of styles I would personally recommend you visit a Levi store, the guys who work there are great and really knowledgeable!

Kate:

I bought my first pair of Levis back in 2017. I wanted a brand that would support and fit me properly after the birth of my daughter. For me I love the thickness of the denim. I needed a jean that would give me the confidence during styling appointments and the red label brand made me feel like one sexy mamma! I would definitely ask an experienced Levis assistant if you're unsure as sizing can be confusing if you're purchasing your first pair. As Lucy pointed out, their knowledge is impressive and they will know the size, length and cut perfect for your needs.

Available at Levi, John Lewis, Selfridges & Harrods

Paige

Paige was founded in 2004 by former ‘fit model’ Paige Adams-Geller. Mens denim was launched in 2006 and since then the brand has expanded to other fashion pieces such as shirts and knitwear.

Lucy:

I currently have my eye on an off the shoulder navy jumper! I would say its the power house within the denim world!

We were first introduced to Paige jeans in 2015 the year we both met! We were both stylists for a well known department store and it was here Paige was sold. What we love about Paige is there no fuss vibe yet they still feel special.

It's worthwhile spending extra for the best quality and fit possible. And we don’t mean that just from a fashion-perspective. Paige fits the bill perfectly.

We often find when a client buys Paige denim they will most defiantly stick with than brand and will often repurchase just in a different colour for the different season. PAIGE is an L.A. based lifestyle collection for men and women. They make what’s called “premium basics.” We couldn't agree more! Its definitely a premium denim which of course comes at a premium price, however, like we have previously said invest in a good quality premium denim and you will have them for life!

Lucy:

I would say the main thing to think about when thinking about purchasing Paige, is the leg lengths of the jeans. SO BLOODY LONG. Great for you long legged ladies! And since they are a premium price you've got to think about whether you would want to pay extra to get them altered. Like with many denim brands, Paige Jeans come in a variety of styles, from super skinny to the classic straight cut. It really is a brand you need to check out because I really do believe it'll be love when you do.

Available at John Lewis, Harrods, Trilogy, Selfridges & Fenwicks

FRAME

Lucy:

My go to brand for me. There skinny jeans are a key player within my wardrobe. I have the black ones and the pale blue. Having found this denim brand when I moved to London in 2018 I have not looked back. Frame was launched in 2012 in LA. A favourite of Poppy Delevingne too!

Again like Paige Frame is a premium denim brand with prices starting at around the £200 price mark, however unlike many premium denim Frame do do good sales! A client of mine last week bought a pair of Frame jeans in Selfridges and they had been reduced from £235 to £95! The majority of Frame jeans tend to be high waisted perfect for that sophisticated vibe and great for when you want to tuck in! Frame jeans are available in Selfridges and selected John Lewis stores.

Kate:

Like most women ( apart from Britney Spears ) I have to have a high waisted jean and Frame

always promise on this. If you're after a change from a skinny I would look at the 'le Garcon' jean. A bestseller, these jeans give a more relaxed feel whilst still holding your shape. Their website is simple and easy to navigate which I love. I'm also in love with their sandal collection for summer. I have my eyes on Le Fisherman Sandal in Noir.

Available at Fenwicks, John Lewis, Selfridges & Harrods

Good American

Kate:

Founded by Khole Kardashian in 2016, this brand recognises body inclusivity and we're here for that. I've been waiting for this brand to come to the UK and now it has I must say I'm impressed.

The price point of this band I feel really affordable ranging from £99 to £135.

Khole was meticulous about the fit and you can see this when you try on a pair, no gapping, tugging or that sagging around the bum area problem!

Originally launched as a denim brand, Good American now

sells a range of apparel and has pioneered size inclusivity; the brand was the first to feature multiple models of varying body types wearing its garments on its site. HIGH FIVE!

The brand insisted that all sizes should sit together on the shop floor and all sizes ( size 4 - 28 ) need to be available if a store wants to stock the brand.

Lucy:

I love the names of the jeans too! Names like ‘Good Legs’ and ‘Always fits’ enhance the brands body positive message. love Good American as a brand because it really does tick the box ‘dress up, dress down’ pair the jeans with a white tee and trainer for the school run or equally pair with a silk shirt and pointy heel and you're ready for cocktails with the girls!

Available John Lewis, Selfridges, Fenwicks & Harrods and now Zara.

7 for All Mankind

Lucy:

My first premium pair of jeans was from the brand 7 for all Mankind. Launched in 2000,by three men,Michael Glasse, Peter Koral and Jerome Dahan; they wanted to create a denim brand that married luxury with casual. The founders quickly established that fabric innovation, unparalleled fit and the attention to detail were the key important factors.

Today, 7 For All Mankind is available worldwide and is a brand that has and does take the demin world by storm. 7 for All Mankind also offers a maternity jean! This brand offers six variety of styles which includes a great wide leg, great for a dressed down relax vibe! Their jeans also offer a plus size and a crop version of many of styles. WINNING!
